If you retire in your mid 50s you have a higher chance of shortening your life than if one continued working.

Everybody dreams about devoting more time to family, gardening yachting and the more joyful parts of life. According to a study of 3500 employees at Shell Oil in Texas published in the British Medical Journal, you have a chance of reducing how many years you live after you retire.

The study was done in two groups one for people retiring at 55 versus people retiring at 65. Persons retiring at 55 have twice as high mortality rate the first ten years after retiring than the 65 group.
