The big line of people wanting to work
It sure can be frustrating getting declined and they tell you that there were 150 people applying for that job.

It is frustrating in a number of ways, sure you did not get the job, but also if you spent considerable time writing a good cover letter and trying to relate your own experiences to what they were looking for. You spent a lot of time that turned into nothing, but the worst thing is that since you were up against so many other people the chances of getting picked demises. The more people that apply for a job the less chance each person has of getting it.

You sure have to be outstanding in every way, both educational and experience perhaps beautiful and have interesting hobbies.

Correlation between the visibility of the job ad and the number of people applying for the job
The better the job has been marketed the more people are going for it. For a company it is only flattering to get a lot of people wanting to work for them. Jobs that have been featured in big newspapers and on all the online job sites is going to get the attention of a lot of people.

Ignoring those big time job ads
Perhaps one should stay clear of these jobs that have been advertised to the extreme. This is unless one can say without blinking that one will be outstanding in all the right ways in a group of several hundreds of people.
